Michele Mikesell Bishop Oil on birch 24" x 30" The work of Dallas artist Michele Mikesell is full of irony and contradiction, but contains recognizable figures. Her combination of humans and animals draws on the connection we have with animals and natural instincts. She is inspired by the realistic portraits of 17th century Dutch masters, which we see in the soft faces hidden beneath animal forms. Her application and manipulation of paint creates a pristine surface, with several layers lying beneath it.
Also on view: John Westmark and Leslie Wallace-Coon._________________________________________________

J.D. Miller Firework Flower Afternoon Oil on canvas 40" x 30" Contemporary artist J.D. Miller combines chromatic expression with a sculptor`s application of paint to create multi-dimensional images on canvas. The result is an emotional explosion of 3-D sculptural oils that create a unique mood and signature ambiance. Traveling extensively throughout the United States, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Cayman Islands and Mexico, he creates everything from expressionistic landscapes to abstract reflections of the human spirit.
"I call myself a reflectionist artist because I believe that the universe mirrors each of us in a unique way. My goal as an artist is to interpret that phenomenon and my art is a multi-dimensional reflection of life and the way I perceive the world." -J.D. Miller

Susie Wind Drink Oil on panel 21" x 17" The Sportsman`s Gallery gladly presents the work of up-and-coming Washington artist, Susie Wind. Wind`s work has been closely compared to that of American artist Edward Hopper`s - regarding both subject matter and style. Wind aims to portray haunting familiar scenes, which she calls, "The Great American Thing." Wind states, "I want to capture that concrete sense of loneliness that I feel in this culture that is constantly reinventing itself into obsolescence." In her attempt to capture the history of abandoned buildings, vacant lots, obscure passageways, and other various spaces, Wind generates the beauty, power, optimism and strength of our country throughout time.
Several other artists will be on display; their names and works are listed, in full, on our website.
