John Westmark - New Works: It may have been John Westmark`s unorthodox materials - paper sewing patterns within his paintings - that first garnered attention, but with his Folklore Series it is the imagery that draws you in. Dramatic figures and allegorical scenes culled from myths and fables are the central theme to Westmark`s new work.

Also on view: works by new gallery artist Michele Mikesell.

Going to the Dogs: Alan Avery Art Company will donate 10% of the evening`s sales to the Atlanta Humane Society. We will feature Leslie Wallace-Coons` ceramic pet sculptures and a group show of paintings including animals by select gallery artists.

Catherine Kelleghan Gallery presents "Going to the Dogs" featuring paintings of man`s best friend by gallery artists including David Swann, Nathaniel Mather, Gee Gee Collins, Steve Frenkel, William Dunlap, Bruce Marion and Daniel Maltzman. Maltzman also does commissions of dogs and recently painted Daddy, Cesar Milan`s dog, and presented it to him on an episode of "Dog Whisperer".

Ten percent of the proceeds from the evening will benefit the Atlanta Humane Society!

The Copeland Collection`s "Impressions of Nature" exhibition features a collection of seven new abstract color florals in glass by master flameworking artist Hans Frabel, as well as vintage sculptures from his limited edition African Animal Series, and more from the artisans of Frabel Studio.

Located at the corner of Lindbergh and Peachtree Hills Avenue, David Gallery features regional contemporary artists. Painting Exchange features the paintings of well-known Atlanta and Georgia artists, as well as 19th - 21st century painting and sculpture. Consignments are welcome.

To celebrate "Spring`s Glory" DE Fine Art Gallery welcomes Deborah Bigeleisen Thursday, May 6 in conjunction with the First Thursdays Buckhead Gallery Walks.

Each painting is an expression of her unceasing wonder at the beauty, complexity and mystery of the natural world. She has focused especially on roses, capturing their essence in large, visually stunning renderings rich with energy, movement and intimacy.

Whether painting abstracts of the finely done petals of a rose, Bigeleisen uses the painting and glazing techniques perfected by Rembrandt and his peers as a means to "expose the layers of my subject`s anatomy, its dynamism, its turbulence and its unpredictability." Those techniques along with her intimate knowledge and love of her subject give her paintings depth, emotion and luminosity – and reveal her wonder at the natural world around her.

"Southern Vernacular" and "Girls of the Crazy Horse" are May`s two photography exhibits at The Hagedorn Foundation Gallery. "Southern Vernacular includes Gross & Daley`s silver gelatin images of small town businesses bypassed by highways and mass transportation. The typology recalls The Bechers` works on industrial structures. Also exhibiting is SCAD Chair of Printmaking Robert Brown, whose photogravures of the Atlanta area highlight the aftermath of landscape`s traumas.

On the second floor of the gallery Janusz Kawa, a photographer for French Vogue presents his series on "The Girls of the Crazy Horse".

Hanging on the walls at Huff Harrington Fine Art on May 6: Doug Foltz: The Sea, The Sky and the Space In Between.

Immense seas and skies, serene marshes and landscapes lit with sunlight are the focus of this exhibit by Atlanta painter, Doug Foltz. Inspired by his love of the water, these paintings explore Foltz`s relationship with nature: clouds, sun, storms, and as he puts it, "all the stuff in between".

Located on a quiet little street in Atlanta`s Buckhead neighborhood, Huff Harrington Fine Art is a little oasis of art, carefully curated and displayed in a warm and cozy ranch house. Each of the gallery`s seven rambling rooms is a neutral backdrop for the gallery`s ever-changing selection of representational, abstract and impressionist art. Owners Ann Huff and Meg Harrington work with a number of emerging and mid-career American and French artists who paint in a variety of styles and media.

New work by Ukrainian artist Igor Raikhline will be featured. Work will reflect his travels abroad and in the United States and work influenced by realism and the detailing found in many Flemish paintings. Born in the Kiev, Ukraine, Mr. Raikhline`s professional career spans over 45 years of study and he has been featured in hundreds of solo shows worldwide. Mr. Raikhline`s murals have been enjoyed by visitors to various museums throughout the world including Atlanta`s Fernbank Museum of Natural History.

The Sportsman`s Gallery`s May exhibition, "Going to the Dogs", features a wide spectrum of works that honor man`s best friend. Works will be on display by Kevin LePrince, Linda St. Clair, Bucky Bowles, Bob Bertram, Peggy Watkins, Julie Jeppsen, Louise Peterson, Walter Matia, John Jones, Helen Nash, Sandy Scott, and Cole Johnson (to name a few) - all of who compassionately capture the expressions, movement and beauty of man`s best friend.

Bennett Street is an unassuming side street tucked away off of Peachtree Road in Buckhead and is home to one of the hidden treasures of Atlanta - TULA Art Center and MOCA GA. Once a thriving warehouse district, TULA was transformed into an artists` studio and gallery complex in the early 1980`s. There is a diverse selection of paintings, photography and sculpture with styles ranging from traditional to contemporary. TULA is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays.
