The Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar & View Presents:
The Sun Dial Restaurant Bar & View is proud to be a sponsor of the 5th Annual Castleberry Hill Loft Tour on October 7 & 8th |
One of Atlanta's oldest neighborhoods, Castleberry Hill originally developed during the railroad days of the 19th & early 20th centuries, and many of the buildings standing today were built at that time. In its youthful days, Castleberry Hill included a balance between residential & commercial use buildings, but by the end of the 19th century, the neighborhood had transitioned into a commercial & industrial center serving local & regional markets. Most of the buildings in the neighborhood & on the Loft Tour were constructed between 1890 & 1930.
In the early 1980s, bold creative types began moving into the unused commercial buildings, creating loft homes & studios, we are proud to feature the following artists and galleries for this month's exhibition:
Calvin Lockwood, Photographer - Calvin Lockwood had been a freelance product photographer at commercial studios in Atlanta since moving here in 1987. After several years, he wanted to open his own studio, but he wanted to invest into a building rather than lease generic warehouse space. Atlanta had been chosen for the 1996 Olympics and predictions had been made about how much the Olympics would spawn redevelopment downtown. |
| In 1993, he purchased a turn-of-the-century 17,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Castleberry Hill. He and his partner gutted and renovated the building into a commercial studio with their loft residence above, an exhibit gallery, a rental loft and a storefront retail space. |
| Now with 25 years of experience, Calvin has been shooting for clients in commercial advertising and product catalogs. Since the renovation of the building was recently completed, he can devote some long awaited time to personal work and fine art. Lighting, composition and bold images are easily shared between his professional career and his personal work. www.calvinlockwood.com |

| Annie Cosentino, Photographer - Artist, Annie Cosentino states that when she wasn't working at one of the family-owned restaurants and hotels in Buffalo, NY, she was taking pictures, developing film and printing in her home. After moving to Atlanta and
maneuvering her scooter through the city streets she started photographing street art and digitally manipulating it. Her computer became a drawing board and her printer is now her darkroom.

| My interest in mimicking a painter through Photography inspired the "Paint By Numbers" series. Visualizing hidden art amongst the simple store bought canvas of Paint By Numbers was irresistible. Digital Photography and the tools of Photoshop enables this series to feel like a painting. Searching numbered canvases for that special image, seems to be never ending. www.photocosentino.com |

| Daniel Biddy, Artist/Painter - Castleberry's attraction reflects my interests visually and ideologically, informing my art, providing a landscape in which to operate. The reclamation of decay and debris for beauty's sake, the marriage of unlikely materials and themes. The proximity of cosmopolitan and urban experience and activity offers a co-existence of cultures and lifestyles without conflict and innovation within historical boundaries. A pushing of the envelope and edges of tradition. An abundance of ideas, dreaming, creation. castleberry is an environment of these characteristics in a harmony of collision.
