This month we present Women In Focus (womeninfocus.us) is a non-profit artist-initiated organization of women photographers who have joined together to support and promote the photographic arts in Atlanta. Founded in 1993 by a small group of women who recognized the need for a formal network of women photographers who could assist in each others' personal, professional, and artistic growth, WIF is currently headed by president, Gittel Price gittelp@bellsouth.net.
Women In Focus has become a thriving organization whose diverse membership includes photographic artists ranging from beginners to seasoned professionals, all brought together by their passion for photography.
Women In Focus values each individual member for the unique contributions that she brings to the organization and strives to provide all members with the resources that they need to thrive as artists. Women In Focus is dedicated to facilitating a forum for open dialogue regarding photography in all of its forms. Educational programs address both technical proficiency and scholarship by incorporating lectures, workshops, and critiques and by covering topics relating to the history and business of photography as well as the creation of images.
Women In Focus seeks to engage the community in its activities by hosting meet-the-artists events and collaborating with other organizations such as the Atlanta Photography Group, Sistagraphy, and Atlanta Celebrates Photography. The scope of the group's activities is further extended past the geographical area of its home base through an Internet presence and joint projects with women photographers around the world.
